State Of The Arc
Since the release of Intel’s discrete GPU, the driver updates have had a powerful impact on the cards performance. As well, OEMs have tweaked their designs to improve cooling to help you squeeze every bit of performance out of your Arc GPU as possible. The Sparkle Arc A770 ROC is one such card, it comes without a factory overclock but the new cooler design is intended to improve performance by ensuring you stay at the top clocks for as long as possible before you reach the temperature threshold and the GPU slows down to accommodate it.
TechPowerUp’s testing shows that sometimes it can beat the older Arc A770 card they have, but not by a noticeable margin. What is interesting is how much the Arc A770 ROC moves around the charts depending on the game being played. Doom Eternal is a great example, where it can outperform an RX 7600 XT or RTX 3060 Ti, while in Alan Wake 2 it can’t match them. There is an exception however, which is the higher the resolution the higher the Arc A770 ROC scores in the charts. That said, even though it’s 23FPS is higher than other cards, it still isn’t going to be much fun to play at 4K.
