An Offset Hotspot Wants An Offset Cooler
Intel’s new Core Ultra series is very different from previous generations, not just in the tasks it was optimized for but there are physical differences as well, such as the fact the chip’s hotspot is no longer in the centre of the die. In the pursuit of more effective cooling, the MSI LGA 1851 Offset Kit has been released. It is a mount that is compatible with MSI’s MAG CORELIQUID I SERIES of AIOs and if you own one you will be able to request one be sent to you. The brackets won’t cost you anything, but the shipping might.
The FPS Revtested it out with a MAG CORELIQUID I360 and a Core Ultra 9 285K to see what effect it might have. The temperatures under load were reduced by up to four degrees in synthetic benchmark testing and by about two degrees when testing games. The effect is not huge, but considering the fact it won’t cost you much it might be worth it for some enthusiasts. You can find the link to request a bracket at the end of the review if you are interested.
One thing it won’t do is turn a Core Ultra into a gaming monster, the chips simply weren’t made for that.
